A mini-digger auger turns your compact excavator into a high-speed drilling machine. Mounted to the excavator arm and powered by the machine’s hydraulic system, this attachment spins a rugged auger bit into the ground, cutting through soil, clay, frozen ground, and even soft rock with consistent torque and speed. One operator handles the entire operation from the cab, drilling holes in seconds rather than minutes.

The YG series mini digger auger offers seven models covering excavators from 0.8 to 6 tons, with torque ranges from 305 to 4890 Nm and oil flow requirements from 12 to 95 L/min. Every model features an Eaton hydraulic motor and a 65Rd output shaft for quick bit changes.

5 Features of YG Mini Digger Auger

1. Multiple mounting frame options

YG supplies different mounting frame designs to match various carrier types and excavator arm configurations. The excavator-mounted auger connects directly to standard bucket pin holes without requiring modification to the excavator arm, and it is compatible with quick-coupler systems for fast changeover between the auger and other attachments like buckets or hammers.

2. Eaton brand hydraulic motor

Every model in the range uses a genuine Eaton hydraulic motor rather than a generic alternative. Eaton is a globally established brand in hydraulic components, known for long service life and stable performance under continuous load. The motor converts the excavator’s hydraulic pressure into smooth rotary power, delivering consistent torque output without the power drops that cheaper motors experience under sustained drilling load.

3. Continuous stable high torque output, built for durability

The high-torque planetary reducer paired with the Eaton motor delivers continuous, stable torque throughout the entire drilling stroke. The sealed housing, high-quality bearings and precision-machined gears mean the unit requires minimal routine maintenance and keeps performing reliably across thousands of drilling hours.

4. Full range of drill rod diameters and bit types for all ground conditions

YG supplies auger bits in a wide range of diameters, from small post-hole sizes up to larger foundation pile diameters. Different bit designs are available for specific ground types — standard soil bits for ordinary earth, hardened bits for frozen and compacted soil, and carbide-tipped bits for soft rock and weathered stone. One drive unit handles virtually any drilling project by swapping the bit, which maximizes equipment utilization.

5. Compatible with excavators, loaders, cranes and skid steers

The excavator-mounted auger is not limited to excavator use. With the appropriate mounting frame, the same drive unit can be carried by wheel loaders, truck cranes and skid steer loaders. This multi-carrier compatibility makes the digger auger attachment a flexible investment for companies that operate mixed equipment fleets.

A Mini Digger Auger in Action: The Full Workflow

Seeing a mini digger auger in action makes the value immediately clear. One operator, one excavator, and one attachment complete the entire drilling cycle without anyone stepping out of the cab.

Step 1: Position and Align

The operator drives the excavator to the first drilling location. The auger attachment hangs vertically from the excavator arm, positioned directly over the mark. A quick glance at the ground, a small adjustment, and the auger bit is centered over the hole location.

Step 2: Engage the Hydraulics

The operator engages the auxiliary hydraulic circuit. The auger begins to rotate. The operator lowers the arm, and the bit makes contact with the ground.

Step 3: Drilling

The auger bites into the soil. The helical flights pull the bit downward as it rotates. Cuttings spiral up and out of the hole, piling neatly around the opening. The operator monitors the rotation speed and adjusts it as needed—faster for soft soil, slower for compacted ground.

The YG series excavator-mounted augers produce clean, straight holes with minimal disturbance to the surrounding ground. A 300mm diameter hole to 1.5 meters depth typically takes 15-30 seconds in soft soil. Harder ground takes longer, but the Eaton motor maintains consistent torque throughout.

Step 4: Withdraw and Clean

At the target depth, the operator reverses the rotation for a moment to clear cuttings from the bit. Then the operator lifts the auger straight out of the hole. The hole remains open and clean, with loose material piled at the rim for easy backfilling.

Step 5: Move to the Next Hole

The operator swings the excavator arm, repositions over the next mark, and repeats the cycle. On a fencing job with posts spaced every 2-3 meters, the operator can drill dozens of holes without leaving the cab.

Auger Bit Selection: Matching the Bit to the Ground

The YG series excavator auger attachment for sale accepts a range of auger bits. Selecting the right bit for the ground conditions is essential for efficient drilling.

  • Standard earth augers are the most common. They feature steel flights with hardened cutting edges. They work well in soil, clay, and sand. Available in diameters from 4 inches to 24 inches or larger. For most landscaping and utility work, standard earth augers are the go-to choice.
  • Rock augers feature carbide-tipped teeth on the cutting edge and often on the pilot bit. They are designed for fractured rock, shale, and soft limestone. The carbide teeth crush and chip the rock while the flights carry cuttings to the surface. For a mini digger auger working in rocky ground, rock augers extend bit life and maintain drilling speed.
  • Continuous flight augers have flights that run the full length of the bit. They are used for deep drilling where cuttings must be continuously removed from the hole. Common in pile drilling and foundation work.
  • Pilot bits are the leading edge of the auger. They center the bit and start the hole. Replaceable pilot bits extend the life of the auger and maintain hole straightness.
  • The 65Rd shaft accepts all these bit types. The operator selects the bit based on the hole diameter required and the ground conditions expected. Changing bits takes minutes.
