A dry ice pellet maker is an industrial machine that converts liquid carbon dioxide (CO₂) into solid dry ice pellets through a rapid expansion and compression process. Liquid CO₂ is injected into a chamber where it expands and cools, forming dry ice snow. This snow is then compressed. The YG series dry ice pellets machine uses a hydraulic system to drive the extrusion process. Liquid CO₂ is fed into the machine under pressure (12-22 Bar). Inside the extruder cylinder, a hydraulic piston compresses the CO₂ snow, forcing it through a precision-bored die plate. The resulting pellets are dense (≤1550kg/m³) and uniform, ready for immediate use in blasting, cooling, or transport applications.
For businesses that use dry ice regularly, owning a dry ice pellet maker means never running out of dry ice at critical moments. The machine produces pellets on demand, eliminating the need for bulk storage and reducing waste from sublimation. Many operators pair this production unit with dry ice sand blaster machines to build a complete on-site cleaning workflow.

Applications of Dry Ice Pellet Maker
Dry ice produced by a dry ice pellets machine serves a wide range of industries and applications:
Industrial Cleaning and Surface Preparation: Dry ice blasting is one of the fastest-growing applications for dry ice pellets. Compressed air propels dry ice pellets at high velocity to clean surfaces without water, chemicals, or abrasives. The pellets sublimate on contact, leaving no secondary waste.
This makes dry ice blasting ideal for cleaning electrical equipment, food processing machinery, automotive parts, and industrial molds.
Cold Chain Logistics and Transportation: Pharmaceuticals, biologics, and temperature-sensitive foods require reliable cold chain management. Dry ice pellets maintain temperatures below -78°C during transport. A dry ice pellet maker on-site ensures a steady supply of dry ice for shipping coolers, vaccine transport, and perishable goods.
Food Processing and Preservation: Dry ice is used in food processing for chilling, freezing, and carbonation. It is also used to keep products cold during processing and packaging. The food-grade purity of dry ice pellets makes them suitable for direct contact with food products in many applications.
Pharmaceutical and Medical Applications: Medical and pharmaceutical industries use dry ice for preserving biological samples, vaccines, and temperature-sensitive medications. The sublimation process leaves no residue, making dry ice ideal for sterile environments.
Special Effects and Entertainment: The entertainment industry uses dry ice for fog and special effects. Concerts, theater productions, and film sets use dry ice pellets to create dramatic low-lying fog effects.
For businesses that offer dry ice blasting services, a dry ice blasting pellets maker on-site means never running out of media. Operators can produce pellets as needed, eliminating downtime waiting for deliveries.

How Does a Dry Ice Pellet Maker Work?
The operation of a dry ice pellet maker follows a straightforward process that converts liquid CO₂ into solid pellets.
Step 1: Liquid CO₂ Injection
Liquid carbon dioxide is fed into the machine from a storage tank or cylinder. The CO₂ must be at a pressure between 12 and 22 Bar with a purity of at least 66ppm.
Step 2: Rapid Expansion and Snow Formation
The liquid CO₂ is released into an expansion chamber. As the pressure drops, part of the CO₂ vaporizes, rapidly cooling the remainder to -78.5°C. This forms a snow-like solid known as dry ice snow.
Step 3: Compression and Extrusion
A hydraulic piston compresses the dry ice snow inside the extruder cylinder, forcing it through a die plate with precision-drilled holes. The die plate determines the pellet diameter—available sizes range from 3mm to 19mm.
Step 4: Pellet Discharge
The extruded pellets exit the machine through the ice outlet elbow, ready for collection and use. The entire process is controlled by a PLC operating system with a 7-inch color touchscreen.

Standard Configuration: What’s Included
Every YG dry ice blasting pellets comes with a complete standard configuration:
- One column standard production mold base (choose from 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 16mm, or 19mm)
- 5-meter standard waterproof power cord
- 3-meter high-pressure, low-temperature stainless steel braided pipe
- Mold stopper
- Ice outlet elbow, high-pressure cryogenic ball valve
- Ice scraper
- Anti-freezing gloves
This complete package ensures the machine is ready for operation upon delivery. The operator needs only to connect the machine to a liquid CO₂ supply and electrical power to begin production.
